The head of the Saudi Pro League, Michael Emenalo, has expressed interest in acquiring Manchester City’s midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne, for a potential move to Saudi Arabia.
During the summer transfer window, numerous European players, including Riyad Mahrez, made transfers to clubs in the Saudi Pro League. Now, Emenalo, a prominent figure in the league, has identified De Bruyne as a significant target for a potential arrival in the Middle East.
In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Emenalo discussed the caliber of players who have joined the Saudi Pro League and expressed openness to considering high-profile players like Mo Salah, Lionel Messi, Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Kevin De Bruyne if they become available.
De Bruyne, who joined City from Wolfsburg for £55 million in the summer of 2015, has since become a key figure, making 358 appearances for Manchester City across all competitions, scoring 96 goals, and providing 153 assists. His contributions have played a crucial role in City’s success, earning five Premier League titles.
As per De Bruyne’s current contract, it is set to conclude in the summer of 2025. If Manchester City decides against offering him a new deal, the subsequent summer transfer window could present an opportunity for a Saudi club to pursue the Belgian midfielder.
Given De Bruyne’s pivotal role in the team, and acknowledging Pep Guardiola’s previous statements about his importance, it is suggested that the club should extend a new contract offer to retain him at the Etihad Stadium beyond his current deal.
