Chelsea concluded 2023 with back-to-back victories after securing a 3-2 win against Luton Town at Kenilworth Road in the Premier League on Saturday.
Cole Palmer showcased his goal-scoring prowess with two well-executed goals, further enhancing his impressive start with the team. Noni Madueke added to his recent success with a brilliant strike past Thomas Kaminski, following his earlier victory against Crystal Palace.
Despite Luton’s late efforts, with Elijah Adebayo and Ross Barkley finding the net, and hitting the crossbar twice through Djordje Petrovic, Chelsea managed to secure the win. The victory narrowed the Blues’ gap to Manchester City in fourth place to just nine points. However, seasoned defender Thiago Silva displayed visible frustration at the final whistle.
Thiago Silva’s discontent was evident as he stood on the halfway line, shaking his head after the match at Kenilworth Road. He directed the TNT Sports camera team to move away before engaging in a confrontation with Enzo Fernandez.
The specific cause of the 39-year-old’s irritation remains unknown, but it could be related to Chelsea allowing Luton to score two goals easily after establishing a 3-0 lead.
Nonetheless, Madueke praised his teammates for securing all three points, acknowledging the challenging nature of the match. “I felt like it was staying together in those final minutes,” he shared with TNT Sports. Expressing relief, he added, “It’s a challenging place to be, and to be honest,
we made it difficult for ourselves. I’m just glad we managed to earn three points. I am thrilled with the three points since they have made things difficult for many of the best teams this year.”
