Chelsea’s recent triumph in the Carabao Cup semifinal, securing a 6-1 victory over Middlesbrough, marked Mykhailo Mudryk as the standout performer.

However, former Chelsea player Craig Burley has issued a cautionary message to manager Mauricio Pochettino, advising against starting Mudryk in the upcoming Premier League match against Aston Villa in the FA Cup’s fourth round.

Burley, who played for Chelsea from 1989 to 1997, expressed reservations about Mudryk’s readiness to be a regular first-team member at Stamford Bridge.

Despite Mudryk’s impactful performance in the Carabao Cup, Burley believes there is still significant room for improvement.

In an interview with ESPN following the victory over Middlesbrough, Burley stated, “I do not trust Mudryk in the least.

I believe that the majority of the time, he does things that are somewhat perplexing.

Because he wants to complete everything at a speed of one hundred miles per hour, I don’t really trust him.”

Chelsea’s decisive win against Middlesbrough saw Mudryk being substituted at halftime, despite the team leading 4-1 and holding a 4-0 advantage for the evening.

The forward played on the left wing alongside Cole Palmer, Raheem Sterling, and Armando Broja in the forward line.

Mudryk’s substitution came as Noni Mudueke entered the pitch, completing the halftime change.

Looking ahead to Chelsea’s next challenge in the FA Cup fourth round against Aston Villa, Burley emphasized his skepticism about Mudryk’s readiness to start.

The former Chelsea player pointed out that Mudryk still has work to do in order to secure a consistent spot in the first squad.

The FA Cup clash on Friday night presents an opportunity for Pochettino to make strategic decisions regarding the lineup.

Burley’s reservations about Mudryk’s playing style and decision-making add an intriguing layer to Chelsea’s team dynamics.

While the team’s victory over Middlesbrough showcased Mudryk’s skills, Burley’s comments reflect concerns about the player’s consistency and tactical approach.

In contrast, established names like Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer are considered reliable choices for the starting lineup.

As the anticipation builds for Chelsea’s upcoming FA Cup fixture, Pochettino faces a critical decision regarding Mudryk’s involvement.

The manager must weigh the player’s recent standout performance against the reservations expressed by Burley, balancing the need for immediate impact with long-term considerations for Mudryk’s development as a key contributor to Chelsea’s first squad.
