Renowned striker Karim Benzema is once again associated with potential moves to Manchester United and Arsenal, dispelling claims of discontent at Al Ittihad as “completely false.”
Having inked a lucrative three-year deal with Al Ittihad in the summer of 2023, Benzema’s reported annual earnings are approximately £172 million. Despite a trophy-laden 14-year stint with Real Madrid, recent speculations suggest Benzema is unhappy in Saudi Arabia, fueling rumors of a possible departure.
Amidst swirling rumors, it’s revealed that even if the 36-year-old desired an exit, navigating out of the Middle East would pose considerable challenges. Benzema, seen as a prominent figure leading European players to join the Saudi Pro League, would need approval not only from Al Ittihad’s coach, Marcelo Gallardo, and sporting director, Roman Planes, but also from Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Sport.
While Benzema returned late from a vacation in Mauritius, there is no indication that he has communicated dissatisfaction or a desire to leave Al Ittihad. Reports surfaced that Benzema allegedly sought a “temporary” departure, prompting discussions with the club’s management after interest from Manchester United and Arsenal.
Despite being linked to Lyon, his former team, the prospect of a move to the Premier League has generated interest. Benzema, with 354 goals during his illustrious Real Madrid career, could offer valuable goal-scoring alternatives to English clubs.
Seeking to quash departure rumors, Benzema emphatically stated to L’Equipe, “It’s all nonsense! The French media is at a loss for ideas these days.”
Jordan Henderson’s departure to Ajax due to Benzema’s substantial salary adds complexity to any potential move. However, the Frenchman’s goal-scoring prowess could significantly benefit both Manchester United and Arsenal.
Manchester United, currently eighth in the Premier League with only 24 goals, and Arsenal, still in the title race, are eager to bolster their attacking options.
