Mauricio Pochettino expressed his dissatisfaction with both the officiating calls and Chelsea’s subpar performance in their 4-1 loss to Liverpool.

Chelsea faced denied penalty claims, with Ben Chilwell cautioned for simulation, while a challenge by Virgil van Dijk on Conor Gallagher went unnoticed by referee Paul Tierney.

Former player Joe Cole criticized the referee’s reluctance to award a clear penalty.

Liverpool capitalized on Chelsea’s lackluster first half, securing a lead with goals from Diogo Jota and Connor Bradley.

Despite Darwin Nunez missing a penalty and controversial decisions, including a contentious foul leading to Jota’s goal, Chelsea struggled to mount a comeback.

Even with Nunez hitting the post four times, Liverpool sealed the victory with Dominik Szoboszlai’s header.

Christopher Nkunku’s consolation goal provided a glimmer of hope for Chelsea, but controversy arose when Nkunku seemed to be fouled in the box shortly after.

Commentators, including Ally McCoist, argued for a penalty, citing contact from Van Dijk.

However, VAR and referee John Brooks disagreed, intensifying Pochettino’s frustration on the sidelines.

Despite the disputed decisions, McCoist acknowledged that Liverpool deserved the overall victory, leaving Chelsea in a precarious mid-table position.

The defeat exacerbated Chelsea’s struggles in away games, with six losses in their last seven matches on the road.

What initially held aspirations of an eighth-place finish now poses a potential threat to relegating the Blues to the bottom half of the table.
