A recent report suggests that David de Gea declined an offer to join a Premier League club during the January transfer window.
The Spanish goalkeeper, who parted ways with Manchester United last summer after 12 years, remains without a club. Despite speculation linking him to a move to Saudi Arabia, De Gea has yet to finalize any deal in the Middle East.
Nottingham Forest was among the clubs interested in acquiring De Gea’s services. The Championship side made a bid to persuade the experienced goalkeeper to join them for the remainder of the season.
De Gea opted to decline their “short-term” offer and explore other potential opportunities.
In addition to pursuing De Gea, Forest also inquired about the availability of Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale. Prior to securing Matz Sels from Strasbourg, Ramsdale was among Forest’s targets.
With David Raya now the first-choice goalkeeper for Forest, the £5.1 million deal for Sels was completed on deadline day, with the Belgian signing a three-and-a-half-year contract at the City Ground.
Forest now boasts a goalkeeping group consisting of Sels, Odysseas Vlachodimos, Wayne Hennessey, and Matt Turner.
Despite turning down Forest’s offer, De Gea continues to search for a new club. As he is not bound by any time constraints, he remains free to sign with any team even after the transfer window closes.
Throughout his illustrious career at Manchester United, De Gea made 545 appearances across all competitions.
His contributions were instrumental to the team’s success in various competitions, including the Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and Europa League. Additionally, he earned 45 caps for the Spanish national team.
Although De Gea is still on the lookout for a new club, his wealth of experience and impressive track record make him an attractive prospect for any interested parties.
