Reports suggest that Chelsea is contemplating selling two of its star players in the upcoming summer transfer window as part of efforts to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

Since the summer of 2022, when the Todd Boehly-led Clearlake Capital consortium took ownership of the club, Chelsea has made substantial investments totaling £1 billion in acquiring new players.

These investments include securing high-profile signings such as Marc Cucurella, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, and Raheem Sterling for significant sums.

However, despite the hefty investment in players, Chelsea’s on-field performances have been disappointing.

Currently positioned 11th in the Premier League table following a 2-2 draw against Burnley at Stamford Bridge, the club faces the risk of breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

With Everton and Nottingham Forest already facing penalties for similar breaches this season, Chelsea may need to take proactive measures to mitigate their financial risks.

According to The Sunday Times, the club is mulling over the possibility of transferring captain Reece James and midfielder Conor Gallagher, which could potentially generate up to £100 million in additional revenue.

Reece James, an integral part of Chelsea’s squad in recent years, has been hampered by injuries this season, limiting his playing time.

The English international underwent surgery in December and only recently returned to training at the beginning of the month.

Following the disappointing draw against Burnley, manager Mauricio Pochettino expressed his dissatisfaction, highlighting the team’s lack of essential qualities required to compete in the Premier League.

He emphasized defensive lapses as a key reason for the setback and stressed the need for the team to exhibit greater cohesion and intensity.

Pochettino acknowledged the team’s attacking energy but noted a deficiency in defensive solidity, which proved decisive in the match.

Chelsea is scheduled to return to Premier League action on Thursday night when they face Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.
