BREAKING NEWS: Arsenal has finalized the signing of an Italian defender on a five-year contract

Arsenal is making a concerted effort to sign Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori, offering him a weekly wage of £65,000 to secure his services.

This move marks a departure from Arsenal’s historical cautiousness in the center-back market, where they have only acquired Gabriel and William Saliba in recent years.

In contrast, other Premier League clubs have signed notable defenders like Josko Gvardiol, Wesley Fofana, Micky van de Ven, and Lisandro Martinez.

According to TuttoBologna, Arsenal is leading the race to sign Calafiori, offering personal terms to attract the former Roma star.

The club is working to finalize the move quickly, although an agreement on the transfer fee with Bologna has yet to be reached.

Arsenal’s willingness to meet financial demands has given them an advantage over other interested clubs, including Chelsea and Juventus.

Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has described Calafiori as one of the best defenders in the world.

Arsenal’s offer of €4 million per year, equivalent to £65,000 per week, reflects his value.

Bologna seeks a fee of around £43 million for their star defender, but may offer Calafiori a new deal with a significant wage increase to retain him, especially after qualifying for the Champions League.

Calafiori’s style fits seamlessly into Arsenal’s attractive, passing football.

His performances at EURO 2024 showcased his committed defending, confidence in bringing the ball out, and composure as a ball-playing defender.

His transfer value is expected to rise, making him a strategic signing for Arsenal’s future. With William Saliba and Gabriel as first-choice center-backs,

Calafiori would provide valuable backup and potentially fill in at left-back if needed.

His addition would significantly strengthen Arsenal’s defensive lineup, enhancing their chances in domestic and international competitions.
