BREAKING NEWS: Reliable sources report that Arsenal is close to finalizing a £40 million cash-plus-swap deal, sending Eddie Nketiah to Everton in exchange for Amadou Onana

Arsenal is focused on bolstering Mikel Arteta’s midfield this summer, with Amadou Onana from Everton emerging as a primary target.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the two clubs initiated discussions on the very first day of the transfer window.

Everton is likely to demand a transfer fee of approximately £50 million for the 22-year-old midfielder.

However, Everton’s need to sell Onana might decrease if Manchester United agrees to their £70 million valuation of defender Jarrad Branthwaite.

Given these circumstances, Arsenal may explore the option of reducing Onana’s transfer fee by offering some of their players in exchange.

Here are four potential candidates Arsenal could include in the deal:

    Eddie Nketiah:

Nketiah’s future at Arsenal is uncertain, as the club is reportedly searching for another forward to compete with Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.

Valued at around £30 million, Nketiah has garnered interest from several Premier League clubs, including Everton.

If Everton’s current striker, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, decides to leave Goodison Park, Nketiah could be a valuable asset to the team.

His inclusion in a potential swap deal for Onana would not only benefit Arsenal in reducing the overall cost but also provide Everton with a capable forward replacement.

    Albert Sambi Lokonga:

After returning to Arsenal following a successful loan spell at Luton Town, Lokonga has become a candidate for a possible move.

During his time at Luton, Lokonga formed an effective midfield partnership with Ross Barkley, despite the club’s relegation.

If Onana were to join Arsenal, Everton would likely need to fill the void left in their midfield.

Lokonga, who may be surplus to requirements at Arsenal, could serve as a fitting replacement for his Belgian compatriot.

His addition to the deal could be advantageous for both clubs, as it would not only help Arsenal secure Onana but also provide Everton with a ready-made midfielder to slot into their lineup.

By considering players like Nketiah and Lokonga as part of the transaction, Arsenal could potentially lower the financial burden of acquiring Onana.

This strategy would allow Arsenal to reinforce their midfield with a highly-rated player while simultaneously managing their spending in the transfer market.

Moreover, Everton would benefit from receiving players who can immediately contribute to their squad, making the deal advantageous for both sides.

As the transfer window progresses, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal will move forward with this approach to land Onana and strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
