Chelsea has quickly found itself in a challenging situation following a tough loss to Manchester City in their Premier League season opener.
The defeat has intensified the pressure on the Blues, particularly on their newly appointed manager, Enzo Maresca.
The club’s current predicament has sparked widespread concern, with former footballer Teddy Sheringham issuing a stern warning about the precarious position of the Italian manager at Chelsea.
Sheringham, a former star at Manchester United, has expressed skepticism about Maresca’s future at Chelsea, predicting that the new manager might have only a brief window to prove himself.
According to Sheringham, the club’s management may give Maresca as little as six games to demonstrate his ability to turn the team around.
If the results don’t improve rapidly, Maresca could find himself out of a job sooner rather than later.
The growing tension around Maresca’s role is largely due to Chelsea’s recent 2-0 loss to Manchester City, a result that has placed the manager under significant scrutiny from both fans and football pundits.
Sheringham has not shied away from expressing his belief that Maresca must start securing victories immediately to avoid further complications.
Speaking frankly, Sheringham described Maresca as a “temperamental” figure, suggesting that the manager must hit the ground running if he hopes to survive in the notoriously demanding environment at Stamford Bridge.
Sheringham was also critical of Chelsea’s owner, Todd Boehly, and the club’s management team, accusing them of setting “unrealistic” expectations for the season.

Sheringham also expressed his surprise and disappointment at the departure of Mauricio Pochettino, a manager he holds in high regard.
Reflecting on Chelsea’s decision to part ways with Pochettino, Sheringham questioned the logic behind letting go of a coach who appeared to be leading the team in a positive direction.
“Pochettino seemed to be making significant progress,” Sheringham remarked.
“He has a proven track record of improving players and building teams that can compete at the highest levels. Letting him go after the strides the team was making is bewildering.”
In Sheringham’s view, Chelsea’s recent management decisions have been erratic and unpredictable, leading many within the football community to question the club’s long-term strategy.
He remains doubtful about the stability and direction of Chelsea, particularly with a manager like Maresca now facing immense pressure.
“When you appoint a new manager, you hope for progress and stability,” Sheringham said. “But with Chelsea, it’s hard to know what’s coming next.
The club has made some surprising decisions, and the pressure on Maresca is intense. It’s a difficult situation, and only time will tell if he can survive it.”
