Manchester United fans have voiced their outrage over the performance of one of their players, following the release of new footage from their 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
The match, held at Old Trafford on Sunday, saw United suffer a disappointing loss, with goals from Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski, and Dominic Solanke sealing the victory for Spurs. To make matters worse, United’s captain, Bruno Fernandes, was sent off after a foul on James Maddison, leaving the team to play the rest of the match with just ten men.
The frustration of United supporters focused primarily on the first goal conceded, which reflected a recurring defensive problem that had surfaced during their recent 1-1 Europa League draw against FC Twente.
The footage, which highlighted Brennan Johnson’s goal, brought attention to a troubling defensive lapse. In the build-up, Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven made a critical run through the midfield, allowing Spurs to progress toward the United goal.
As Johnson approached United’s penalty area, he was closely marked by United left-back Diogo Dalot. However, just as they neared the 18-yard box, Dalot appeared to slow down unexpectedly, which gave Johnson the opportunity to easily tap the ball past United goalkeeper Andre Onana.
The release of this footage sparked significant anger among United fans on social media, who quickly criticized Dalot’s lack of effort.
One fan, expressing frustration, tweeted: “I like Dalot, but this is unacceptable. He clearly sees the player and has the pace to catch him. What was going through his mind?”
Another supporter, looking for answers, added: “If my 10-year-old didn’t track back like that, I’d be seriously concerned.”
Comparisons were drawn between Dalot and Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui by another fan, who said: “Mazraoui knows how to track his man, but Dalot just lets his guy roam free. It was so avoidable.”
Further disbelief was expressed by a supporter who remarked: “For a player with Dalot’s speed, this is shocking. He clearly sees Johnson and knows the cross is coming, but I have no idea what he was thinking.”
Another fan, watching the footage in full, summarized the general mood: “It’s obvious Dalot was at fault. Seeing the entire clip just makes it worse. It’s appalling.”
