Despite being Chelsea’s top scorer this season, his lack of starts in domestic league matches has sparked concerns about his future with the club.
When Enzo Maresca took over as Chelsea manager in the summer, there were doubts about how the Italian would handle an inflated squad.
However, Maresca has defied expectations, efficiently managing the roster through strategic sales, loans, and a balanced rotation system across all competitions.
His approach has kept the majority of players content and ensured regular game time for most, contributing to Chelsea’s strong performance this season.

Nkunku’s Limited Role

Maresca has favored Nicolas Jackson as the main striker, leaving Nkunku with just one league start so far.

Maresca Addresses Concerns
Despite the mounting speculation, Maresca has tried to ease tensions by emphasizing the competitive nature of Chelsea’s squad.
Following a 1-1 draw with Arsenal, Maresca reiterated that his selection decisions are based on performance and competition, not fixed hierarchies.
“The players who featured tonight might be playing in the Conference League in a few weeks, and those in the Conference League could feature in the Premier League,” Maresca stated.
“Joao Felix, Nkunku—any of them are capable of playing in the Premier League. It’s all about consistency and competition.”
While Maresca’s comments offer hope for Nkunku, they may not be enough to quell his dissatisfaction, especially with interest from top clubs like Manchester United and PSG intensifying.
The coming weeks could be critical in determining whether the Frenchman remains at Stamford Bridge or seeks greener pastures in search of more regular playing time.
