After Real Madrid’s Champions League triumph at Wembley, José Mourinho, one of football’s most renowned managers, offered his candid opinion on Arsenal’s prospects in the competition next season.
The Portuguese tactician, who has two Champions League titles under his belt, expressed doubts about Arsenal’s chances of lifting the trophy, citing specific concerns about their squad composition.
“Arsenal had an outstanding season, and their qualification for the Champions League is well-deserved,” Mourinho remarked.

“In the Champions League, you’re up against the world’s most potent attacking teams.
To succeed, you need a full-back who can remain composed under pressure, control the game’s tempo, and make smart decisions.
That’s what Dani Carvajal did for Real Madrid tonight against Dortmund. Zinchenko, for all his qualities, hasn’t proven he can consistently perform at that level.”
Mourinho pointed to Zinchenko’s occasional lapses in passing accuracy and his tendency to make hasty decisions as vulnerabilities that could be exploited by elite teams.
“When you’re playing against the best in Europe, mistakes like those are unforgivable.
A single error can cost you the match, and Arsenal can’t afford that if they aspire to win the Champions League.”
Despite his critique, Mourinho acknowledged Arsenal’s progress under Mikel Arteta and praised the team’s youthful energy and ambition.
However, he emphasized that addressing the left-back position is critical if the Gunners want to compete with Europe’s elite.
“Arsenal are building something special, no doubt.
But until they strengthen their defense, particularly at left-back, I don’t see them being serious contenders for the Champions League.”
