Pep Guardiola has stated that he anticipates Mikel Arteta will reciprocate the support given during Arsenal’s previous push for a top-four spot by allowing two key Arsenal players to move to Manchester City in January.
Guardiola, intent on strengthening City’s squad in the title race against Liverpool, is reportedly interested in recruiting some of Arsenal’s top talents to enhance City’s lineup for the second half of the season.
In addition, City is reportedly at the forefront in the pursuit of Arsenal’s highly-rated 16-year-old talent, Ethan Nwaneri.
Nwaneri has impressed at Arsenal’s Hale End Academy, delivering standout performances in both the Under-18 and Under-21 teams.
His displays have caught the attention of other major clubs, including Chelsea, but since he is only 16, Nwaneri is not yet eligible to sign a professional contract until he turns 17.
This gives rival clubs a window of opportunity to make a move.
Nwaneri made history with Arsenal by becoming the youngest player ever to debut in the Premier League at just 15 years old.
However, he has yet to make another senior appearance.
With Nwaneri’s future uncertain, and given the recent departure of another young talent, Charlie Patino, there are concerns about Arsenal’s ability to retain its top prospects.
City sees Nwaneri as a highly promising addition, potentially following a development path similar to those of Phil Foden and Rico Lewis, both of whom rose through the ranks at City and became first-team players.
Arsenal Under-18 coach Jack Wilshere has praised Nwaneri’s talent and adaptability, calling him “exceptional” and noting his ability to play across various offensive positions on the field.
As the summer transfer window nears, Arsenal will need to act quickly to prevent the departure of their emerging stars.
