Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been provisionally suspended after testing positive for a banned substance during a routine doping test, just days before a critical Premier League match against Everton.
The Football Association (FA) informed the Ukrainian international about the adverse findings from a urine sample collected as part of standard testing procedures.
Chelsea responded with an official statement acknowledging the situation and reinforcing their dedication to anti-doping compliance.
The club stated, “Chelsea and Mykhailo fully support The FA’s stringent testing program.
Our players, including Mykhailo, routinely undergo testing to ensure adherence to the sport’s anti-doping rules.”
The statement also highlighted Mudryk’s perspective, noting, “Mykhailo has categorically denied knowingly using any prohibited substances.
Both the club and the player are collaborating closely with the relevant authorities to determine the source of this unexpected result.
No further comments will be made while the investigation is ongoing.”
Mudryk, who joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 for a reported £89 million, expressed his shock and disbelief on social media.
He wrote, “The FA has notified me that a sample I provided contained a banned substance.
This news has stunned me, as I have NEVER knowingly consumed any illegal substances or violated any regulations.”
He reassured fans of his commitment to uncovering the truth, saying, “I am working with my team to determine how this happened.
I firmly believe I have done nothing wrong and remain hopeful of returning to football soon.
Due to the confidential nature of the investigation, I am unable to share more details at this time but will provide updates when possible.”
This incident represents a major setback for Chelsea, who have been enjoying a strong season under the management of Enzo Maresca.
Mudryk’s last appearance came on November 28, during a 2-0 UEFA Conference League win against Heidenheim, in which he scored a goal.
Chelsea’s impressive form has allowed them to close the gap on league leaders Liverpool to just two points.
As the investigation continues, the outcome could have far-reaching implications for both Mudryk’s career and Chelsea’s season.
Fans and observers across the football world are closely following the developments, eager for clarification and resolution.
The case has placed Mudryk’s professionalism and the club’s campaign under intense scrutiny, raising questions about the potential impact on their aspirations.
