Rúben Amorim, the 39-year-old manager of Manchester United, has reportedly made it a priority to secure a contract extension for one of the club’s most promising young players. In his debut Premier League match as United’s manager, Amorim led the team to a resounding 4-0 victory over Everton at Old Trafford.
While Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee stole the spotlight with two goals each, it was the standout performance of 22-year-old winger Amad that truly captured Amorim’s attention.
Amad played a crucial role in the triumph, delivering two key assists. One of his most memorable moments came when he dispossessed Jarrad Branthwaite, paving the way for Bruno Fernandes to set up Zirkzee’s opening goal.
After the game, Amorim expressed his admiration for the Ivorian winger, highlighting his exceptional skill and determination. He also credited former United coach Ruud van Nistelrooy for contributing to Amad’s development.
“Amad has incredible talent, even though he’s not the most physically imposing player,” Amorim remarked. “He worked extremely hard today, but there’s still room for growth.
Ruud did an excellent job in helping him progress, and I’m fortunate to benefit from that groundwork. He was outstanding in both attack and defense, though we’ll need to manage his fitness carefully to build his physical endurance.”
Since Amorim took charge, Amad has been included in two Premier League starting lineups, against Ipswich and Everton, and also came off the bench during a Europa League match against Bodo/Glimt.
Having joined Manchester United in January 2021, Amad has gained valuable experience through loan spells at Rangers and Sunderland before establishing himself as an integral member of the first team.
Amad’s current contract with Manchester United is set to expire at the end of the 2024/25 season, though the club reportedly holds an option to extend it by another year. According to The Telegraph, United plans to initiate discussions about a new deal soon, as delaying could allow Amad to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs starting in 2025.
While formal talks have yet to begin, fans are urging the club to secure a long-term commitment from the talented winger, especially if he continues to perform at his current level.
With Amorim’s evident trust in Amad’s potential and the player’s consistent contributions on the pitch, securing his future at Old Trafford could be a significant step in United’s long-term plans.
