Manchester United fan and well-known YouTuber Mark Goldbridge has shared his thoughts on who the club should target as a replacement if Alejandro Garnacho leaves.
The young winger, previously seen as a key player in Erik ten Hag’s plans, has recently been linked with moves to Chelsea and Napoli. This shift in his status comes after Ruben Amorim took over as United’s manager in November 2024, resulting in changes to Garnacho’s role at the club.
Notably, his absence from the squad during United’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad on December 15 raised questions, although Amorim later praised Garnacho’s attitude. Despite this, Garnacho has been largely limited to substitute appearances over the past three months.
Speculation about his future grew after reports surfaced that Garnacho’s agent was seen at Stamford Bridge during Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Wolves. Additionally, Italian media outlets have claimed that Garnacho has already reached an agreement to join Napoli, adding to rumors of an impending exit.
Amid this uncertainty, Goldbridge, whose real name is Brent Di Cesare, has suggested that Wolves forward Matheus Cunha would be an ideal replacement if Garnacho were to leave. Goldbridge took to social media to advocate for Manchester United to make a move for the Brazilian attacker.
Cunha, aged 25, has been a standout performer for Wolves this season despite the team’s struggles in the league. In 22 appearances, he has contributed 10 goals and 4 assists, drawing the attention of top clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal.
This interest could make it challenging for United to secure his signature. Following Wolves’ recent defeat to Chelsea, their manager, Vitor Pereira, criticized the team’s lack of mentality and fight, highlighting the need for players with leadership qualities—attributes Cunha has consistently displayed.
Valued at €50 million (£42 million) and contracted until June 2027, Cunha’s Premier League experience, attacking versatility, and technical skill make him an attractive option for United. He could fit seamlessly into Amorim’s tactical setup, offering both work rate and goal-scoring ability to strengthen the team’s attacking lineup. However, with interest from other Premier League clubs, United would need to act quickly to secure his services.
Should Garnacho leave, his departure would undoubtedly leave a void in United’s squad, but it could also serve as an opportunity for the team to reshape their attacking options. Investing the funds from Garnacho’s potential sale into a player like Cunha might prove beneficial.
However, many fans still believe retaining Garnacho should be the club’s priority unless his exit becomes unavoidable. The coming weeks will be decisive as United navigate this complex situation and decide whether to pursue Cunha as part of their long-term plans.
