Paul Pogba has addressed speculation linking him with a potential move to Olympique Marseille, dismissing the rumors as “unrealistic.” The 31-year-old midfielder, who is currently serving a four-year suspension for doping, has seen his future become a topic of significant discussion after his ban was recently reduced.
Pogba’s suspension came after he tested positive for testosterone early in the 2023–2024 season. Initially handed a four-year ban, the midfielder appealed the decision, and the Court of Arbitration for Sport reduced his suspension, making him eligible to return to professional football by March 2025.
Despite his prolonged absence from the pitch, Pogba remains a figure of interest, with several top European clubs reportedly monitoring his situation. Recent rumors suggested he was in talks with Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille, fueled by comments from Patrice Evra, Pogba’s friend and former Manchester United teammate. Evra had hinted that he recommended Pogba to Marseille’s sporting director, Medhi Benatia, further adding to the speculation.
However, Pogba has now clarified the situation, shutting down the Marseille rumors. In an interview with L’Equipe, the French international explained, “I laugh because Uncle Pat [Evra] was joking. It’s not realistic because I still have a contract.” Pogba pointed out that he remains tied to Juventus, with his current deal running until 2026.
While Pogba’s suspension has been shortened, his future at Juventus is far from secure. Since returning to the club in 2022, his time in Turin has been plagued by injuries, limited playing opportunities, and now the doping controversy. Reports indicate that Juventus and Pogba’s representatives are in discussions regarding a potential mutual termination of his contract.
Though the prospect of Pogba leaving Juventus seems possible, an immediate move to Marseille is unlikely. The Frenchman has expressed his desire to continue playing at a high level once his suspension ends, but his focus remains on preparing for a comeback in March 2025.
Pogba’s dismissal of the Marseille rumors underscores the uncertainty surrounding his career. Whether he stays at Juventus or seeks a fresh start elsewhere, his ambition to compete at the highest level remains undeterred. For now, Pogba’s future hinges on his ability to regain form and overcome the challenges that have overshadowed his return to Italian football.
