BREAKING NEWS: Manchester City, Manchester United, and Liverpool are reportedly among the clubs interested in Barcelona’s attacking midfielder Dani Olmo

Chelsea has established itself as one of the most prolific attacking teams in the Premier League this season, netting 38 goals in their first 19 matches.

Currently sitting fourth in the league with 35 points, their attacking prowess has been evident.

However, recent results have highlighted vulnerabilities, particularly against teams employing a defensive low-block approach.

These challenges have led to setbacks such as a goalless draw with Everton, a 2-1 loss to Fulham, and a 2-0 defeat against Ipswich.

    Tactical Concerns and Depth Issues

Chelsea’s manager, Enzo Maresca, has shown a reluctance to use many substitutes during games, which raises questions about the depth and reliability of the bench.

This lack of rotation has sparked speculation that the club may look to bolster their squad in the upcoming January transfer window by signing a player capable of making an impact off the bench.

Dani Olmo as a Potential Target

Reports from Spain suggest that Chelsea is keen on signing Dani Olmo, Barcelona’s attacking midfielder.

The 26-year-old has also attracted interest from major Premier League clubs, including Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Tottenham.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Chelsea’s interest, alongside Tottenham’s, in the Spanish international.

Barcelona recently faced restrictions from La Liga that prevented them from including Olmo in their squad, a development that could make a transfer to the Premier League more likely.

    Olmo’s Performance This Season

This season, Olmo has appeared in 15 matches across all competitions, scoring six goals and providing one assist in 813 minutes of play.

His creativity and knack for finding spaces behind the striker could make him a vital asset for Chelsea’s attack.

    Comparison with João Félix

Chelsea signed João Félix from Atlético Madrid during the summer for £45 million, targeting a similar creative role.

Félix previously had a stint at Barcelona, where he recorded 10 goals and six assists in 44 appearances.

Both players excel in attacking midfield roles, with the ability to operate as wide players who cut inside to contribute to playmaking efforts.

Félix has outshone Olmo in certain metrics this season, partly due to his participation in the UEFA Conference League, which often features lower-caliber competition.

However, Olmo boasts a higher goal tally and matches Félix’s assists per 90 minutes (0.19).

Both are adept in key creative areas, averaging over six progressive passes, 1.5 key passes, and more than two successful take-ons per 90 minutes.

    Addressing Chelsea’s Creative Challenges

Olmo’s addition could address Chelsea’s struggles against compact defensive setups, providing Maresca with a reliable creative option off the bench.

As journalist Josh Bunting has noted, Olmo’s impressive performances in EURO 2024 demonstrate his ability to unlock tightly organized defenses.

His skill set could offer Chelsea the spark they need to overcome their recent challenges and maintain their position among the Premier League’s top teams.
