BREAKING NEWS: Tough times for Andre Onana as Manchester United’s new co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, reportedly moves to replace him

Manchester United is reportedly showing interest in Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel, according to sources from Footballwave.

The 29-year-old shot-stopper has established himself as one of the standout performers in Serie A and has recently cemented his place in the Italian national team.

Provedel’s consistent displays have not only earned him domestic recognition but also brought him to international attention.

What truly sets Provedel apart, however, is his rare ability to find the back of the net — a unique trait for a goalkeeper.

This season, he gained global recognition as the most prolific goalscoring goalkeeper in the world.

One of his most memorable moments came during the Champions League group stages, where he scored a dramatic late equalizer against Atletico Madrid.

His 96th-minute header secured a 1-1 draw and proved crucial in Lazio’s progression to the last 16 of the tournament.

This extraordinary feat marked just the third time in Champions League history that a goalkeeper has scored a goal from open play.

Provedel’s goalscoring heroics aren’t new. Back in 2020, while on loan at Juve Stabia, he scored a last-minute equalizer against Ascoli in Serie B.

Interestingly, his goalscoring instincts can be traced back to his early footballing days — he initially started his career as a striker.

During the 2008/09 season, he netted 27 goals for Pordenone’s youth side before eventually transitioning into a goalkeeper.

Manchester United’s interest in Provedel presents an intriguing narrative — the potential replacement of Andre Onana, widely regarded for his elite ball-playing skills, with Provedel, a rare goalscoring goalkeeper.

Onana, who joined United from Inter Milan in a €51 million deal (plus €4 million in bonuses), has struggled to meet expectations at Old Trafford despite his stellar performances in the Champions League with Inter last season, where he led the clean sheet charts and earned a reputation as the best passing goalkeeper in Europe.

Since his arrival in Manchester, Onana has been under scrutiny for multiple high-profile errors, especially during the Champions League losses to Galatasaray and Bayern Munich.

With the club underperforming in the Premier League and having been eliminated from both European competitions and the League Cup, the need for reinforcements in key areas has become more pressing.

Lazio has reportedly set a €35 million asking price for Provedel, a figure that may be too steep for United to consider a deal in the January window.

Nonetheless, the Red Devils are said to be keeping close tabs on the goalkeeper, with a view to possibly making a move in the summer.

This potential transfer reflects United’s efforts to revamp their squad and strengthen weak areas as they aim to regain their competitive edge.
