João Félix is set to feature in AC Milan’s starting lineup against Bologna tonight, in what could turn out to be his final match for the club, according to a report from Calciomercato.com.
The outlet describes the game as “a final chance to rewrite a seemingly sealed fate” for the Portuguese forward.
With Rafael Leão serving a suspension and Christian Pulisic expected to be rested, Félix, alongside Samuel Chukwueze, will likely play in support of striker Santiago Gimenez.
Félix arrived at Milan on loan from Chelsea and is due to return to Stamford Bridge when his loan deal expires on June 30.
Although his Milan stint began promisingly—highlighted by a goal against Roma in the Coppa Italia—his overall performance has been underwhelming.
Over 15 appearances, Félix has registered just one assist in addition to his debut goal, falling short of the expectations that surrounded his arrival.
Despite coach Sérgio Conceição showing faith in him initially, Félix’s performances failed to pick up, and he eventually lost his spot in the starting lineup.
Adding to the uncertainty around Félix’s future is the fact that Milan are in a transitional phase themselves, with the club currently without a sporting director or a head coach.
As things stand, it seems highly unlikely that Milan will reach out to Chelsea in an effort to extend Félix’s stay beyond this season.
Yet, despite his struggles in Italy, Félix remains a sought-after player in the transfer market.
Brazilian giants Flamengo reportedly made an approach for the 25-year-old, though it was rejected.
Meanwhile, Benfica—Félix’s former club—have also shown interest in bringing him back to Lisbon, particularly with the Club World Cup kicking off on June 14.
Félix’s future will now be largely in the hands of his agent, Jorge Mendes, who will be working to secure the forward a new club once his Milan loan concludes.
Interestingly, Félix himself has not entirely ruled out the possibility of staying at Milan.
In a recent interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, the attacker spoke highly of the club, its facilities, and life in the city, reflecting fondly on his decision to join.
“Before the offer came, I used to watch Milan’s games and thought to myself that I would love to play for them.
Once the opportunity arose, I immediately told my agent to make it happen—and he did,” Félix shared.
While the transfer negotiations went smoothly, his performances on the pitch have not met the same level of success.
As Milan prepare to face Bologna, tonight’s game might serve more as a farewell moment for Félix rather than a career revival.
Once the season concludes, he is expected to return to Chelsea, where his next move will be determined.
