Manchester United beat Chelsea and Liverpool to sign Europe’s most wanted 25-year-old striker for £60M

Manchester United have reached an agreement to sign Wolves striker Matheus Cunha in a blockbuster transfer that marks their first major move of the summer window.

The 25-year-old Brazilian, widely regarded as one of the most sought-after forwards in European football, is now on the verge of completing his switch to Old Trafford after turning down advances from both Chelsea and Liverpool.

According to The Daily Mail, Cunha is expected to undergo his medical as early as this week, once Manchester United formally approach Wolverhampton Wanderers and activate the striker’s release clause.

United are prepared to trigger the £62.5 million buyout clause in Cunha’s contract, which will be paid in three separate instalments of around £20.85 million spread over two years.

Personal terms have already been agreed upon, with Cunha set to sign a five-year deal that includes an option for a sixth season.

Barring any last-minute setbacks, the Red Devils plan to officially unveil him within the next 24 hours.

This signing is seen as a significant coup for Erik ten Hag’s side, especially given the competition they faced from top Premier League rivals.

Cunha’s arrival would also address United’s longstanding need for a consistent goal scorer, especially after a disappointing season that saw them miss out on UEFA Champions League qualification.

United’s ambitions in the market don’t stop with Cunha. Talks are currently ongoing with Brentford over a potential move for Bryan Mbeumo.

The 25-year-old Cameroon international had a standout season, scoring 20 Premier League goals and providing seven assists.

Brentford have set his valuation at £50 million, and United remain keen to add his firepower to their frontline.

In addition, Manchester United have expressed interest in Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap, who has a £30 million release clause.

However, signing all three attackers—Cunha, Mbeumo, and Delap—would cost the club close to £150 million.

With the absence of Champions League revenue after their Europa League final loss to Tottenham, United will likely need to sell key players to fund further transfers.

One potential exit could involve club captain Bruno Fernandes.

The Portuguese playmaker is reportedly weighing up a lucrative £200 million offer from Saudi club Al-Hilal, which would span over three years.

If Al-Hilal submits a formal bid nearing £100 million, United may find it hard to refuse.

The club is also looking to reinforce their midfield and goalkeeping departments.

With no European football next season, United could benefit from a less congested fixture list and focus fully on domestic competitions in 2025.
