The mystery surrounding Victor Osimhen’s unexpected visit to Manchester United’s medical facility has now been unveiled, as sources close to the club confirm that the Nigerian striker is on the verge of being officially announced as a new signing.

The long-standing speculation about Osimhen’s move to Old Trafford appears to be reaching its conclusion, with confirmation expected to drop any moment now.

However, Manchester United are not putting all their eggs in one basket. Despite finalizing terms with Osimhen, the club continues to explore additional striker options for the summer transfer window. Viktor Gyokeres remains high on United’s shortlist.

Reports suggest that Arsenal are currently leading the race for the Sporting CP forward, but the Red Devils have not ruled out making a move themselves, especially given the complexities surrounding Osimhen’s salary demands.

Manchester United’s performance this season has highlighted a critical weakness in their attack. Rasmus Hojlund has struggled to deliver consistently, failing to prove he can be a reliable Premier League striker.

Joshua Zirkzee, another option in the squad, isn’t seen as a traditional number nine, and while the club is also on the verge of acquiring Wolves’ Matheus Cunha, his role is expected to be that of a playmaker rather than a central striker under new boss Ruben Amorim.

TEAMtalk reports that Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap is another priority target for Manchester United. Sources reveal that Delap is open to the move, and with a release clause of £30 million in his contract, the deal is financially attractive, especially after Ipswich’s relegation.

Returning to the Gyokeres situation, GiveMeSport has disclosed that United still regard him as a viable target. Amorim, who previously coached Gyokeres at Sporting, is particularly keen on a reunion, believing the Swedish striker could be a consistent goal provider at Old Trafford.

Gyokeres’ record certainly supports this — 53 goals and 13 assists in just 51 appearances this season for Sporting.

One key factor influencing United’s interest is the cost difference between Osimhen and Gyokeres. Osimhen is reportedly demanding a massive £400,000-a-week salary, a figure that United consider unsustainable. In contrast, Gyokeres is believed to be satisfied with wages closer to half that amount.

Although Arsenal are currently the frontrunners for Gyokeres, their pursuit is being challenged. United could make a late push, especially if they secure Champions League qualification by defeating Tottenham in the Europa League final.

Meanwhile, both Liverpool and Spurs are also monitoring the situation, with sources claiming the player has a strong affection for Manchester United and could reject other offers to join the Red Devils.
