Manchester United return with a jaw-dropping bid for a fierce striker after their initial £100m offer was turned down.

Manchester United are reportedly targeting Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Nelson Semedo, according to Football Transfers. The 31-year-old full-back, whose contract is set to expire at the end of June, could be available on a free transfer, making him an appealing option for a club looking to rebuild after a deeply disappointing season.

United’s 2024/25 campaign ended in turmoil. Not only did they finish with their lowest points tally in Premier League history, but they also suffered the blow of missing out on

European football after losing the Europa League final. This failure has prompted serious reflection at the club, with Ruben Amorim expected to overhaul the squad.

Several players, including Alejandro Garnacho, are tipped to leave, and United will need smart, cost-effective signings to revamp the team under financial pressure.

Enter Nelson Semedo—a seasoned, reliable defender with five years of Premier League experience and a background at Barcelona.

His experience and adaptability make him a logical target. Over the 2024/25 season, he featured not only in his usual right-back role but also filled in as a right midfielder and centre-back, offering crucial flexibility.

For a team that struggled with injuries and inconsistency, his ability to cover multiple positions would be a major asset.

Signing Semedo on a free transfer would also help United allocate resources to other priority areas. Given the absence of European competition, the club is expected to have limited funds, and securing a proven Premier League performer at no cost would represent shrewd business.

Another factor working in United’s favor is that Semedo shares the same agent as Leny Yoro, a young defensive talent the club is also pursuing.

This shared representation could smooth out negotiations or at least open a more favorable dialogue between the parties.

If the move materializes, Semedo would likely compete with Diogo Dalot for the right-back slot.

Meanwhile, Aaron Wan-Bissaka appears to be on his way out, with Galatasaray reportedly interested in signing him. While Semedo may not be the high-profile name fans are clamoring for, he fits the mold of a reliable, versatile, and experienced addition—exactly what United need as they aim to steady the ship under Amorim.

Ultimately, the potential arrival of Semedo signals a move toward pragmatism and experience, laying the groundwork for a more stable and balanced squad in the upcoming season.
