Bryan Mbeumo Transfer Update: Manchester United Closing In on Brentford Star

Red Devils Accelerate Summer Squad Overhaul

Manchester United are reportedly making serious headway in their bid to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, as the club looks to reshape its squad after a disastrous 2024/25 campaign.

According to TEAMtalk, negotiations between United and Brentford have advanced significantly, and a full agreement could be sealed in the coming days.

The Red Devils are in the market for fresh attacking talent after finishing a disappointing 15th in the Premier League and falling short in the Europa League final, leaving them out of the Champions League for next season.

The urgency to strengthen the squad is clear, with United already completing the £62.5m signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves. Mbeumo now appears to be the next major target on their list.

Initial discussions between the two clubs saw Brentford rejecting United’s first offer.

However, talks have since become more positive, with both sides closing the gap in their valuations.

Fresh reports suggest that a total deal worth around £65m is now on the table.

Adding further fuel to the speculation, Brentford are moving quickly to sign Metz winger Cheikh Sabaly — a player who scored 15 goals and provided four assists in Ligue 2 last season — indicating they may be preparing for Mbeumo’s departure.

While Tottenham Hotspur had previously shown strong interest in Mbeumo, they are now expected to withdraw from the race following the appointment of former Brentford manager Thomas Frank at Spurs.

Even so, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has warned that Spurs could still return for the player, especially given Frank’s admiration for him.

For Manchester United’s attack, Mbeumo’s arrival could be transformative.

With Jadon Sancho likely to leave and uncertainty surrounding Antony’s future, Mbeumo could slot into a revamped front line under new manager Ruben Amorim.

TEAMtalk also reports that United remain interested in bringing in Hugo Ekitike through a player-plus-cash deal, which would further enhance their offensive options.

From a fan perspective, Mbeumo looks like a smart signing — a proven Premier League player with the pace, creativity, and versatility to add new energy to United’s attack.

At 24 years old, he still has room to develop and could be a key part of United’s long-term plans.

While a £65m price tag is significant, it reflects the current market, and the deal could prove great value if Mbeumo delivers on his potential.

If United can finalise this transfer soon, it will mark another positive step in what is shaping up to be a very important summer rebuild.
