đź”´ TRANSFER UPDATE: World-Class Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez Reportedly Eager for Manchester United Move

Manchester United may have a golden chance to bolster their goalkeeping department, with recent reports suggesting that Aston Villa and Argentina’s first-choice goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez, is open and waiting for a move to Old Trafford.

According to an update from TyC Sports (relayed by Sport Witness),Martinez is keen to join the Red Devils and is essentially hoping for the club to initiate contact and begin formal negotiations.

The 32-year-old shot-stopper has drawn interest from multiple clubs this summer, including Galatasaray, but Manchester United remains his most desired destination.

Despite United’s inability to offer Champions League football for the upcoming season, Martinez is reportedly undeterred and sees a move to Old Trafford as the most attractive option for the next stage of his career.

Currently earning £150,000 per week, Martinez is prepared to make the switch if United are willing to meet Aston Villa’s demands.

This potential signing makes a lot of sense for Manchester United, who struggled defensively last season across multiple competitions.

While there are concerns regarding Andre Onana’s performances since his arrival from Inter Milan, Martinez represents a vastly experienced and highly reliable option who has consistently performed at an elite level both domestically and internationally.

Over the past few seasons, Martinez has established himself as one of Europe’s finest goalkeepers.

His heroics for Argentina in the 2022 World Cup—particularly during penalty shootouts, including the final against France—cemented his reputation as a player who thrives under immense pressure.

His remarkable penalty-saving ability, combined with his strong command of the box, leadership, vocal presence, and shot-stopping excellence, make him a complete package between the sticks.

In 2024, Martinez further added to his accolades by winning the prestigious FIFA Best Men’s Goalkeeper award, finishing ahead of top talents such as Gianluigi Donnarumma, Ederson, Mike Maignan, Andriy Lunin, David Raya, and Unai Simon.

His performances have also earned him widespread praise from football pundits and managers alike.

Gary Neville has described him as “world-class,” while Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espírito Santo praised one of his outstanding saves last season, calling it “pure instinct” and “remarkable.”

While Onana did show improvement towards the end of the previous campaign, questions still linger about his long-term consistency, concentration, and suitability for a top-level club like United.

The addition of Martinez could bring much-needed internal competition, greater stability in the goalkeeper role, and the option to phase out or even sell Onana if his struggles persist.

Martinez remains under contract at Aston Villa until 2027, meaning the club is under no immediate pressure to sell.

However, a bid in the region of ÂŁ30 to ÂŁ40 million may be enough to persuade Villa to part ways with their prized asset, depending on how negotiations unfold.

For United, securing the services of a proven and decorated goalkeeper like Martinez could prove to be one of the smartest moves of the summer transfer window.
