Manchester United are reportedly on the verge of completing a deal to sign Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, with negotiations between the two clubs entering the final stages, according to The Guardian.
The Red Devils, under new manager Ruben Amorim, are prioritising an overhaul of their attacking department following a disappointing goal-scoring record last season.
In preparation for Amorim’s preferred 3-4-2-1 formation, United are open to moving on from traditional wingers such as Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Alejandro Garnacho.
As part of this tactical transition, the club has already secured the services of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers and is now looking to wrap up the signing of Mbeumo.
United had previously agreed on personal terms with the Cameroonian international, signaling their strong interest.
Their first official offer — worth around £55 million, including performance-based bonuses — was turned down by Brentford, who are reluctant to lose one of their key players.
However, the two clubs have now made progress, and a deal appears close to completion, with a total package reportedly reaching £65 million, pending agreement on the exact breakdown of add-ons.
In terms of wages, Mbeumo is expected to earn approximately £150,000 per week, similar to the salary package given to Cunha.
Once the deal is officially finalised, Manchester United will turn their attention to other key positions, with Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku among the names being considered for the centre-forward role.
Mbeumo’s versatility makes him a valuable asset for Amorim.
He is comfortable playing both as a right-winger and as a second striker, making him a strong candidate for the right attacking midfield position (right CAM) in Amorim’s system.
His performance last season underlined his attacking prowess, with 20 goals and 7 assists in 38 Premier League appearances — an impressive return that demonstrates his readiness for a bigger platform.
Cunha also had a productive campaign, contributing to 21 goals for Wolves, and together, the duo are seen as major upgrades in United’s frontline.
Amorim is keen on having his key signings in place before the start of pre-season, allowing time to integrate them into the squad and work on tactical drills.
In addition to strengthening the attack, Amorim is also reportedly seeking reinforcements in midfield and between the posts, hinting at more incoming transfers before the new season kicks off.
