Manchester United are stepping up their efforts to secure the signing of Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi, as they look to further strengthen their squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.
According to a report from Fichajes, the Red Devils are “determined” to beat several top European clubs to the 25-year-old’s signature, with Ruben Amorim pushing for key reinforcements in midfield.
After a poor showing last season that saw United finish 15th in the Premier League and fall short in the Europa League final, Amorim is focused on a major rebuild.
While much attention has been on bolstering the attack—with Matheus Cunha already signed and negotiations progressing for Bryan Mbeumo—the midfield is another area identified for improvement.
Amorim has reportedly asked the club to act swiftly in addressing depth and quality issues in that department.
Frattesi has emerged as a prime target. Although he is highly rated at Inter Milan, his 2024/25 season was underwhelming in terms of game time.
He managed just 13 starts in Serie A and the Champions League combined, mainly due to fierce competition from the likes of Nicolo Barella, Hakan Çalhanoğlu, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Despite limited opportunities, Frattesi still managed to contribute seven goals and one assist, showcasing his ability to impact games even with minimal minutes.
Frattesi is reportedly open to leaving Inter in pursuit of regular football, and Manchester United’s project under Amorim appeals to him.
Though Inter would prefer to keep the Italy international, they may be forced to consider offers in the region of £30–43 million.
With a contract that runs until 2028, Inter are in no rush to sell, but the player’s desire for more involvement could influence the outcome.
Manchester United are not alone in this pursuit. Atletico Madrid, Napoli, Juventus, and Roma are also monitoring Frattesi’s situation, with Atletico said to be United’s primary competition.
Meanwhile, Premier League clubs like Tottenham and Newcastle United have also shown interest, making this a highly competitive race.
Frattesi would be a smart addition for United. A dynamic, box-to-box midfielder, he could provide the energy and forward thrust currently lacking in the midfield.
With Casemiro declining and Kobbie Mainoo yet to fully convince Amorim, Frattesi could partner well with Manuel Ugarte or rotate with Bruno Fernandes in more advanced roles.
