Viktor Gyokeres completes medical and signs 5-year deal with Manchester United

Manchester United are reportedly exploring a shock summer move for England international striker Ivan Toney, currently playing for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, according to Fichajes.

The Red Devils are looking to strengthen their attacking options and view the 29-year-old as a potential answer to their goal-scoring struggles.

The club has already made contact with Toney’s representatives, indicating serious interest in securing a deal.

United are said to have submitted an offer worth around €35 million (approximately £30 million), hoping that the financial package will be enough to tempt both the player and his current club.

Toney, who left Brentford to join Al-Ahli last summer, is under contract with the Saudi club until June 2028 and earns a substantial weekly wage of £415,000.

Although United’s main striker target remains Viktor Gyökeres, who currently appears more likely to join Arsenal, the Old Trafford hierarchy are now seriously considering alternative options.

Toney is believed to be a strong candidate due to his combination of proven finishing ability, Premier League experience, and current form in Saudi Arabia. He could represent a cost-effective but high-impact solution, especially in comparison to more expensive targets.

Toney enjoyed a standout season in Saudi Arabia, scoring an impressive 30 goals in 44 appearances, finishing just behind Cristiano Ronaldo in the league’s top scorers chart.

His explosive goal tally has reignited interest from top European clubs and even earned him a recall to the England national team for the June international window under new manager Thomas Tuchel, where he made a brief appearance in a friendly against Senegal.

From United’s point of view, Toney ticks many boxes. He brings physicality, sharp attacking instincts, and intelligent movement, traits that would make him either a solid starting option or a strong rotational piece alongside other forwards.

His time at Brentford was also prolific—67 goals in 128 appearances—making him one of the Premier League’s most consistent scorers before his move to Saudi Arabia.

Additionally, with United planning to offload several players, including Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho, they are under pressure to rebuild their frontline quickly.

The club has already completed the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and is progressing in talks with Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, who has reportedly agreed to the transfer.

If United can pull off the signing of Toney at the proposed fee, it could prove to be one of the more savvy business moves of the summer window.
