Manchester United Monitor Choupo-Moting as January Striker Search Faces Uncertainty
Manchester United’s pursuit of attacking reinforcements this January could end without any new arrivals, but Bayern Munich’s Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has emerged as a potential late-window solution.
According to sources cited by 90min, the experienced Cameroonian striker is one of the options currently under consideration at Old Trafford, should the club decide to strengthen its forward line before the transfer deadline.
United manager Erik ten Hag has reportedly made it clear that he wants to improve the team’s offensive output, particularly given the club’s struggles in front of goal this season.
However, significant additions in January remain complicated due to financial constraints and the club’s current focus on player departures.
Unless there is movement in the outgoing market—most notably the possible departure of Anthony Martial—United are unlikely to make a substantial investment in a new striker this winter.
Choupo-Moting, who has a long track record in Europe’s top leagues and Champions League football, is seen as a financially sensible option.
The 34-year-old’s contract with Bayern Munich expires at the end of the current season, making him an attainable short-term solution.
His potential arrival would bring valuable experience and depth to United’s attacking unit without requiring a significant transfer fee.

Earlier in the season, Manchester United had also explored the possibility of signing Timo Werner from RB Leipzig. Talks progressed briefly in November, but the club ultimately decided against pursuing the German international.

Another striker being tracked by United is Serhou Guirassy, who is currently representing Guinea at the Africa Cup of Nations. Guirassy has been in excellent form for Stuttgart, and his release clause makes him an appealing target.
However, reports indicate that the player is content to remain in Germany until the summer, preferring to finish the season with his current club before considering his options.
Looking further ahead, United have also discussed Jonathan David as a long-term solution to their forward needs.
The Lille striker’s contract is set to run until 2025, and with only one year left on his deal by this summer, speculation is growing that Lille may be open to selling him at the end of the season to avoid losing him for a reduced fee later.
