England international agrees to join Manchester United as Amorim envisions a brilliant new attacking trio

Manchester United’s summer rebuild under new manager Ruben Amorim is gaining significant momentum, especially in the attacking department.

One of the key names now dominating their shortlist is Ivan Toney, with fresh developments suggesting the striker is open and eager to make the move to Old Trafford.

After United’s disappointing 2024/25 season — where they shockingly finished 15th in the Premier League — the need for major changes has become a pressing priority.

Amorim and the club’s hierarchy are now determined to construct a squad capable of challenging at the highest level again.

Toney, currently with Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League, has reportedly communicated his strong interest in returning to England’s top flight.

A major motivation behind this desire is his ambition to be included in the England squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Despite being selected by Thomas Tuchel in a recent international squad, Toney believes that regular Premier League football would better serve his chances.

It’s even been reported that he’s willing to accept a pay cut to facilitate a move to Manchester United, underlining how much he values the opportunity.

Al-Ahli is believed to be open to parting ways with the 29-year-old striker, less than a year after his move to the Middle East.

They have set a £30 million asking price, which is viewed by United as fair considering Toney’s proven track record.

In the Premier League, Toney scored 36 goals in 83 appearances for Brentford, before adding an impressive 30 goals in 40 matches during his debut campaign in Saudi Arabia.

His combination of strength, composure, aerial presence, and goal-scoring consistency makes him a natural fit for Amorim’s preferred 3-4-2-1 system — which emphasizes fluidity and pressing in attack.

United have been forced to pivot after losing out on Viktor Gyokeres, who is now expected to join Arsenal. As a result, Toney has become a key focus.

Ollie Watkins remains another option under consideration, though his potential arrival depends on the fate of Rasmus Højlund.

The Danish striker has drawn interest from Inter Milan, and reports indicate that a permanent transfer may be more likely than a loan — paving the way for Watkins to replace him if a deal materializes.

Meanwhile, United have turned down a chance to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin, citing financial and injury concerns.

The club is also continuing to chase Bryan Mbeumo, having seen two bids rejected by Brentford, with a third offer expected soon.

In parallel, United are reportedly monitoring Victor Osimhen, who remains one of the most coveted forwards in Europe. The Nigerian is believed to be considering four serious options, with United among them.

Additionally, a potential fire sale at Barcelona could open doors for further reinforcements, with the Catalan club needing to offload over £100 million in talent.
