Former Premier League star to sign for Manchester United

Manchester United appear unlikely to bring in a new striker during the January transfer window, despite growing concerns over the team’s lack of attacking output.

While manager Erik ten Hag is reportedly eager to add more firepower up front, the club’s current focus is more on offloading players rather than making major signings.

According to a report by 90min, the club is still keeping an eye on a number of potential forward options, including Bayern Munich veteran Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, but no move is currently expected.

The Red Devils have struggled to consistently score goals this season, and Erik ten Hag is believed to be frustrated with the team’s lack of cutting edge in the final third.

However, Manchester United’s ability to enter the market is limited by financial restrictions and squad depth concerns.

In particular, the uncertain future of forward Anthony Martial is a key factor.

If Martial remains at Old Trafford beyond January, it could block any incoming deals due to limited room in the squad and wage budget.

One of the players United were previously interested in is Timo Werner, with early discussions taking place as far back as November.

However, United chose not to proceed with any formal talks, and Werner has since completed a loan move to Tottenham Hotspur from RB Leipzig, effectively ending any speculation about a potential switch to Old Trafford.

Despite not making any moves yet, United are still evaluating Choupo-Moting, a 35-year-old striker who is seen as a low-cost, short-term solution.

His contract with Bayern Munich expires at the end of the current season, which makes him a financially viable option.

So far, though, United have not taken any concrete steps to negotiate a deal, and his name remains on a shortlist rather than an active pursuit.

Another striker under consideration is Serhou Guirassy, who has been in outstanding form in the Bundesliga for Stuttgart.

Guirassy is currently representing Guinea in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

While there is a release clause in his contract, sources indicate that he is likely to stay with Stuttgart for the remainder of the season.

Looking further ahead, Jonathan David of Lille is also on United’s radar as a long-term target.

His contract runs through 2025, and with Lille potentially needing to generate funds, the Canadian forward could become available this summer.

United have held internal talks regarding a possible move but are not expected to act until the end of the season.

While United are monitoring several striker options, including Choupo-Moting, Guirassy, and David, the likelihood of a January signing remains low unless key players like Martial leave the club before the window closes.
