Manchester United Have Completed the Signing of Bryan Mbeumo on a Five-Year Deal

Manchester United are reportedly making an ambitious move to sign Spanish midfielder Fabian Ruiz from Paris Saint-Germain, as they look to rebuild under new manager Ruben Amorim following a dismal 2024/25 campaign.

According to reports, United have tabled a €50 million (£43 million) bid for the Euro 2024 winner, despite serious doubts about whether the deal can actually be completed.

United’s last season was one of the worst in the club’s modern history. They finished a shocking 15th in the Premier League and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur, meaning they will not play any European football next season.

In an effort to turn things around, the Red Devils have already completed the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves, and they are reportedly close to bringing in Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, who has made it clear he prefers a move to Old Trafford over Tottenham.

Additionally, Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez is believed to be Amorim’s top choice for the goalkeeper position, and Martinez himself is open to a summer move.

These positive developments have reportedly encouraged the United hierarchy to pursue even bigger targets—one of whom is Fabian Ruiz, a proven performer at the highest level with PSG and Spain.

Since joining Paris Saint-Germain from Napoli in 2022, Ruiz has been a key part of their midfield, helping the French club secure three Ligue 1 titles and a Champions League trophy.

In the 2024/25 Champions League campaign, Ruiz featured in 17 matches, scoring once and providing four assists, playing a pivotal role in Luis Enrique’s successful side.

Domestically, he added four goals and five assists across 30 Ligue 1 appearances.

Despite United’s bid, signing Ruiz will be extremely difficult. PSG are not keen to lose the 29-year-old, especially given his crucial role in their squad.

Enrique is reportedly planning to keep his trusted midfield trio of Ruiz, Vitinha, and Joao Neves intact for the upcoming season.

Moreover, Ruiz himself may be reluctant to leave a team competing at the top of European football for one that’s currently struggling in the Premier League and missing out on European competition.

While Manchester United still carry global appeal and financial clout, their current lack of success could be a significant obstacle in convincing top-tier talents like Ruiz to join.

Still, Amorim and his team seem determined to reshape the squad, having also shown interest in a Turkish playmaker and identifying more targets across Europe.

But for now, the pursuit of Fabian Ruiz looks more like a statement of intent rather than a transfer that’s likely to materialize.
