Brighton & Hove Albion’s left-back Pervis Estupiñán is reportedly eager to join Manchester United this summer, with fresh claims suggesting he has instructed his representatives to begin negotiating a transfer away from the Amex Stadium.
According to South American journalist Sebastien Vidal, Estupiñán views a move to Old Trafford as his preferred next step and is pushing for a deal.
Despite his enthusiasm and reported willingness to make the switch, there is currently no official confirmation or strong indication that United are actively working to bring the Ecuadorian international to the club.
Estupiñán, who has built a solid reputation in the Premier League and has been praised for his attacking qualities down the left flank, is a player that United have been monitoring.
However, according to sources close to the club, he is not considered a top priority at this stage of the transfer window.
The club’s current transfer focus lies elsewhere, particularly in strengthening the central defence and midfield, with names like Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro, Jarrad Branthwaite, João Neves, and Manuel Ugarte topping the shortlist.
United’s left-back situation is not entirely stable but does include several internal options.
Luke Shaw, while highly experienced and still considered the first-choice when fit, has struggled with injuries over recent seasons.
Tyrell Malacia has yet to feature in a full campaign due to long-term fitness issues, casting doubt over his future role.
Patrick Dorgu, signed in January from Lecce, is seen as a long-term development project, while youth signings such as Diego Leon and Harry Amass are not yet ready for consistent first-team football.
While Estupiñán fits the profile of what United could need — a Premier League-experienced, attack-minded full-back — his injury record from last season (where he missed a large portion due to recurring issues) and the expected transfer fee of £40–50 million may reduce United’s immediate interest.
Brighton, for their part, are not believed to be actively seeking to offload the 26-year-old and would only consider doing so if a substantial offer was made.
Given the current squad structure and transfer priorities, a deal for Estupiñán seems unlikely at the moment, though that could change if United’s left-back situation worsens during pre-season.
If Shaw or Malacia were to suffer setbacks or if Dorgu isn’t ready to step up, United may be forced to reassess their stance, potentially bringing Estupiñán back into focus as a viable summer option. Until then, any transfer talk remains speculative, despite the player’s reported desire to make the move.
