Live from Old Trafford, united legend wants club to sign sensational goalkeeper

Wayne Rooney Urges Manchester United to Sign Donnarumma

Live from Old Trafford, Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has set tongues wagging after delivering a powerful message about the club’s future.

With Ruben Amorim now in charge and a major rebuild underway, Rooney believes there is one department United cannot afford to ignore: the goalkeeping position.

The former United captain, who knows a thing or two about building winning teams, did not mince his words.

Speaking to the press, Rooney highlighted the importance of a world-class goalkeeper in Amorim’s project and pointed directly to Gianluigi Donnarumma as the answer.

“Yes, the goalkeeper situation is a key thing Amorim needs to sort out,” Rooney said firmly. “With Donnarumma, he’s one of the best goalkeepers in the world. It would be crazy if Manchester United don’t go for him. Wage demands? I don’t think that’s a risk.

I saw a stat recently — errors leading to direct goals, his was zero. That tells you everything. I hope United and Amorim don’t miss this chance.”

Those remarks have immediately ignited debate among fans and pundits alike. For many supporters, Rooney has simply said what they have been thinking: United need a long-term solution in goal if they want to compete at the highest level again.

Currently at Paris Saint-Germain, Donnarumma has long been regarded as one of football’s finest talents. Standing at 6ft 5in, the Italian combines size, reflexes, and composure in a way that very few goalkeepers do.

At just 26 years old, he already has years of experience at the top level, including winning Euro 2020 with Italy, where he was named Player of the Tournament.

For United, he represents not just stability but the possibility of securing their goalkeeping department for the next decade.

Rooney’s words also underline how critical the goalkeeper role has been in United’s history. The club’s greatest successes often coincided with legendary stoppers like Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar, who provided the security and leadership necessary for sustained dominance.

Many fans see Donnarumma as the kind of figure who could restore that tradition.

The reaction online has been electric. Supporters are calling the potential move a “dream signing” and insisting the board must act decisively before other European giants swoop in.

Some have gone further, claiming that failing to pursue Donnarumma would signal a lack of ambition under Amorim’s leadership.

For Rooney, however, this is not about speculation or fantasy. It is a direct challenge to his former club to back their new manager with the calibre of talent required to restore United to the top.

By urging the club to act now, he has put the spotlight squarely on the board and on Ratcliffe’s ambitious plans.

The message is clear: if Manchester United want to reclaim their place among Europe’s elite, they cannot miss the chance to bring Donnarumma to Old Trafford.
