Manchester United finally reach full agreement to sign £63M star with £10M add-ons

Despite the excitement surrounding claims that Manchester United have completed a major transfer worth £63 million plus £10 million in add-ons for a top-class midfielder—reportedly confirmed by Fabrizio Romano with his iconic “Here we go!”—there is currently no verified or official announcement supporting this development as of August 7, 2025.

The original report suggests that United have finally wrapped up a deal after weeks of intense negotiations, securing the services of a highly sought-after midfield talent.

This player, who has allegedly attracted interest from top European clubs, is rumored to be taking over the legendary No. 18 shirt—formerly worn by the iconic Paul Scholes.

That symbolic jersey number has long been associated with midfield greatness at Old Trafford, and news of this assignment has understandably created a buzz among the fanbase.

According to some fans, this could be the transformative signing they’ve been waiting for.

However, upon closer inspection, this dramatic transfer update doesn’t appear to align with any of the current confirmed moves made by Manchester United this summer transfer window.

So far, United have indeed been active, but none of the deals completed or reported so far match the specific details described above.

For example, Bryan Mbeumo was signed from Brentford in a deal worth up to £71 million, with £65 million paid up front and £6 million in add-ons.

But Mbeumo is primarily a forward, not a midfielder, and there’s no indication he will wear the No. 18 shirt.

Likewise, Matheus Cunha joined earlier in the summer for a similar fee—roughly £63 million—but again, he is also an attacking player rather than a central midfielder, and there’s no link between him and the iconic jersey number.

Another player currently on United’s radar is Benjamin Šeško of RB Leipzig.

While a deal for the striker appears to be advancing, with terms reportedly in the region of £65 million plus bonuses, the transfer has yet to be finalized.

Furthermore, neither his position nor reported squad number matches the scenario outlined.
