The reigning champions started the day in the second position, trailing Liverpool by two points. However, their fortunes took a downturn as they slipped to third place.

Earlier in the day, Liverpool secured a convincing 4-1 victory over Brentford, intensifying the pressure on Manchester City. Meanwhile, Arsenal also enjoyed success with a resounding 5-0 win against Burnley.

However, Manchester City failed to capitalize on the opportunity to close the gap at the top, settling for their fourth draw of the season.

Former Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling came back to haunt his old club, opening the scoring for Chelsea with a sublime finish into the bottom corner following a swift counter-attack in the 42nd minute.

Despite his efforts, Sterling missed a golden opportunity to double the lead early in the second half, with his close-range shot saved by Ederson.

Pep Guardiola’s side persisted in their pursuit of an equalizer, but Erling Haaland squandered a clear chance as time ran out.

City eventually found the back of the net in the 83rd minute, courtesy of Rodri’s powerful strike that deflected off Trevoh Chalobah and into the goal.

However, controversy ensued when Colwill appeared to handle the ball in stoppage time, despite VAR’s ruling that it was unintentional.

City’s efforts to create another scoring opportunity fell short, and Chelsea managed to hold on for a crucial point amid the dispute.

As a result of the draw, Guardiola’s men now find themselves trailing leaders Liverpool by four points, although they still have a game in hand against Brentford scheduled for Tuesday.
