Djordje Petrovic, who spent last season on loan at Strasbourg, performed admirably and significantly boosted his profile. Despite his success, Chelsea are reportedly open to cashing in on the Serbian goalkeeper, especially as they explore the option of signing AC Milan’s Mike Maignan.
Earlier this week, Chelsea approached the Italian giants with an offer for the French international. Maignan, 29, has just a year remaining on his contract, and while Milan have placed a valuation of £20-£25 million on him, Chelsea believe £8.5 million is a more appropriate fee given his contract situation.
The Blues are eager to secure Maignan’s services before June 10th to ensure he can take part in their entire Club World Cup campaign. It is understood that Maignan is keen on the move and has communicated his interest in joining Chelsea to Milan.
However, there’s still no indication that an agreement is close. Italian journalist Daniele Longo has reported that Milan rejected Chelsea’s initial bid, calling it too low—reportedly less than €20 million. A second and potentially decisive offer is expected to be submitted early next week, likely between Monday and Tuesday.
Should Chelsea finalize the deal for Maignan, it would likely mark the end of Petrovic’s time at Stamford Bridge. The 25-year-old is attracting interest from a number of clubs, with Monaco and AC Milan reportedly among the suitors.
Milan, in particular, view him as a possible replacement should Maignan depart. Chelsea, who paid £14 million for Petrovic in 2023, are in a strong position to make a healthy profit if they decide to sell. The coming weeks will be pivotal as the club evaluates its goalkeeping options and makes critical decisions.
