Manchester United’s summer overhaul under new manager Rúben Amorim is gathering serious momentum, with reports confirming that personal terms have now been agreed with one of the most exciting talents in world football.
A five-year contract — running until 2029 — has already been signed off, and the announcement is expected imminently as United look to bolster their forward options ahead of the new season.
Fabrizio Romano himself has hinted with a trademark “Here we go,” indicating the club is on the verge of welcoming its third signing this summer.
And as that deal nears completion, United have also turned their attention to Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku. According to respected French journalist Loïc Tanzi of L’Équipe, United have already made direct contact with Nkunku’s representatives to explore the feasibility of a transfer.
The Red Devils are actively gathering information and have signaled their interest — although no formal offer has yet been submitted.
The French international is believed to be open to a Stamford Bridge exit after a disappointing campaign that was plagued by injuries and limited opportunities.
Nkunku, who was a big-money arrival from RB Leipzig just last summer, has failed to cement himself as a regular starter under Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca.
Despite receiving public praise from Maresca and even Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, who rates him highly, the Frenchman appears determined to move on in search of more consistent game time.
United’s interest is part of a broader strategy to overhaul their attack, especially given Rasmus Højlund’s uncertain future.
The Danish striker, who scored only four league goals last term, is already drawing serious attention from Inter Milan, and United may cash in if a suitable bid arrives.
That would leave a space at the top end of the pitch — one that Nkunku could potentially fill. Amorim is said to appreciate Nkunku’s versatility; the Frenchman can play as a central striker, drop into a second-striker role or even operate as a left- or right-sided inside forward.
This tactical flexibility would fit perfectly into Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system, where attackers are expected to rotate freely and contribute across the front three.
United have already secured Matheus Cunha to play in the No.10 role, with Bryan Mbeumo looking increasingly likely to come in as a creative right-sided forward.
Adding Nkunku would complete a dynamic and interchangeable front-line, allowing Amorim to adjust the team’s shape and style as required.
The club are also keeping tabs on other big-name strikers — Victor Osimhen, Dusan Vlahovic and Hugo Ekitike have all been discussed — but Nkunku’s mix of creativity, directness and proven goal-scoring record at RB Leipzig could make him the perfect fit.
