Manchester United Closing In on Bryan Mbeumo Signing Amid Final Transfer Talks with Brentford
Bryan Mbeumo’s exceptional season with Brentford has caught the attention of several top clubs, with Manchester United now aggressively pursuing the 23-year-old forward.
Mbeumo found the net 20 times in the Premier League last season, making him the fourth-highest scorer in the competition behind only Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Alexander Isak (Newcastle), and Erling Haaland (Manchester City).
This marked a personal milestone for the Cameroonian international, as it was the first time in his career that he reached double figures in top-flight football.
Before his Premier League breakthrough, Mbeumo had shown promise in the lower leagues.
He scored 11 goals for Troyes in Ligue 2 during the 2018/19 season and added 16 goals for Brentford in the 2019/20 campaign while the club was still in the Championship.
After promotion, he maintained consistent output in the Premier League, scoring eight, nine, and nine goals respectively in his first three top-flight seasons across all competitions.
Manchester United initially submitted an offer worth £55 million for Mbeumo, but Brentford turned it down.
The Bees are reportedly seeking a fee in the same range as Wolverhampton Wanderers received for Matheus Cunha – around £62.5 million.
In response, United returned with a stronger bid: £55 million upfront, plus £5 million in performance-based add-ons.
However, Brentford are still evaluating this proposal and want more favorable and achievable conditions attached to the add-ons before giving the green light.
According to reports from The Standard, the deal is “edging closer,” and United remain in pole position to land the forward.
While other Premier League clubs like Tottenham and Newcastle have shown interest, Mbeumo has made his preference for a move to Old Trafford clear.
Personal terms are either fully agreed or close to it, with Mbeumo expected to earn approximately £250,000 per week, putting him among United’s top earners.
United are hoping to complete the transfer before their pre-season preparations begin on July 7.
Mbeumo’s addition would significantly bolster United’s attacking options, especially with new manager Rúben Amorim reportedly favouring a 3-4-2-1 formation, where Mbeumo’s versatility as a right-winger or inside forward fits perfectly.
If the deal goes through, it would become Brentford’s record sale, surpassing the £40 million fee received from Al-Ahli for Ivan Toney.
With 70 goals and 51 assists in over 240 appearances, Mbeumo brings proven Premier League experience and goal-scoring pedigree to a United side in need of attacking reinforcement.
