As of July 1, 2025, Manchester United have officially released nine players, marking a significant turning point in the club’s squad rebuilding efforts under manager Rúben Amorim.
The list includes three senior first-team names — Victor Lindelöf, Christian Eriksen, and Jonny Evans — alongside six academy prospects: Jack Kingdon, Sam Murray, James Nolan, Tom Wooster, Hubert Graczyk, and Tom Myles.
The announcement has triggered an emotional response across the fanbase, with many expressing gratitude toward the veterans while also acknowledging the need for change as the club pursues a new direction.
Among the notable exits, Victor Lindelöf, now 32, departs after eight seasons at Old Trafford.
Signed from Benfica in 2017 for £31 million, the Swedish defender made 259 appearances and scored four goals.
However, last season he struggled to secure a consistent role under Amorim’s preferred 3-4-2-1 formation, featuring in just 14 Premier League matches.
Christian Eriksen, aged 33, also leaves after three years with the Red Devils. During his spell, he clocked up 113 games, registered 12 assists, and played an instrumental part in United’s 2023 Carabao Cup triumph.
Although highly respected for his experience and creativity, his influence on the pitch had started to wane due to physical demands and changing tactics.
Jonny Evans, who rejoined the club in 2023 for a second stint, ends his time with United at 37.
Though largely seen as a backup option, Evans provided valuable leadership and made 23 appearances during a transitional campaign.
Collectively, these three departures represent not only a changing of the guard but also a substantial financial shift — particularly with Lindelöf and Eriksen’s combined £270,000-a-week wages no longer part of the club’s expenses.
As for the six youth players released, none managed to break into the senior side, despite some being highly rated in earlier stages.
Jack Kingdon, a versatile defender, and Sam Murray, a promising left-back, had shown early promise but were ultimately overtaken by emerging stars such as Leny Yoro.
Goalkeepers Wooster, Graczyk, and Myles, along with midfielder James Nolan, are now expected to pursue opportunities elsewhere — with Derby County reportedly interested in Wooster.
In an official statement, Manchester United expressed their appreciation for all nine players and wished them the best in their future careers.
Reactions among fans have been split. While many praised the likes of Lindelöf and Eriksen for their dedication, others welcomed the overhaul as a much-needed shake-up.

With talks ongoing for Ardon Jashari from Club Brugge, Amorim’s firm decisions point toward a serious ambition to bring Manchester United back to elite status, both domestically and in Europe.
