BREAKING NEWS: “Our win over PSG has put us ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign a brilliant striker who’s the perfect fit alongside Cole Palmer

Chelsea have now written a new chapter in European football history by becoming the first club ever to win all three major UEFA tournaments.

Their emphatic 4-1 triumph over Real Betis in Poland on Wednesday night secured them the UEFA Europa Conference League title, completing a rare and prestigious continental treble.

This historic accomplishment adds to their previous UEFA Champions League and Europa League victories, placing them in a class of their own among European giants.

Despite this remarkable achievement, Chelsea are not resting on their laurels. Manager Enzo Maresca and the club’s hierarchy remain fully focused on enhancing the squad ahead of the new season.

Reports indicate that the club has begun serious discussions to sign Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP, aiming to bolster their attacking options ahead of a busy campaign that includes Champions League football.

According to Portuguese news outlet Record, Chelsea have formally initiated talks to acquire Gyökeres, a player who has been on their radar for some time. Initially, their interest was tentative due to uncertainties surrounding qualification for next season’s Champions League.

However, with that now secured and fresh off their latest European success, the Blues find themselves in a powerful position to attract top talents. Sporting CP, who recently celebrated their Taça de Portugal final win over rivals Benfica, are reportedly now open to negotiating the striker’s transfer.

While the 26-year-old Swedish international has a release clause of €100 million (£84 million), Sporting president Frederico Varandas is said to be willing to consider offers closer to €65 million (£54 million), making a deal more feasible.

Chelsea are not the only club eyeing Gyökeres, with Juventus and Arsenal also monitoring the situation. However, Chelsea’s recent momentum and assured Champions League status may give them the edge in securing the striker’s signature.

Adding to the urgency is the apparent on-field tension between current Chelsea forwards. During the Conference League final, Cole Palmer, one of Chelsea’s standout performers this season, was visibly upset with teammate Nicolas Jackson for mismanaging a crucial opportunity to score.

When the match stood at 2-1, Jackson failed to pass to an unmarked Jadon Sancho, instead overrunning the ball — a mistake that led to Palmer’s angry reaction and a yellow card.

Though Palmer had earlier opened the scoring, his chemistry with Jackson has often looked shaky. Data from Transfermarkt backs this up, showing that Jackson has scored just eight Palmer-assisted goals in 72 matches — a relatively unimpressive tally.

In contrast, Gyökeres has been sensational at Sporting, scoring 97 goals in just 102 appearances. If Chelsea manage to land him, it could mark a significant turning point for the club’s frontline.

A striker of Gyökeres’ caliber would likely be a perfect complement to Palmer’s creativity, potentially transforming Chelsea’s attack into one of the most formidable in Europe.
