Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has subtly addressed speculation about his future at the club, amid a £40 million transfer link to rivals Tottenham during the January transfer window.
Despite being named acting captain by manager Mauricio Pochettino, Gallagher’s future at Stamford Bridge remains a topic of discussion, with interest reportedly coming from Tottenham, Newcastle United, and West Ham.
While there are ongoing rumors, football.london is aware that Gallagher has previously expressed a desire to stay at Stamford Bridge, even though there are currently no talks between Spurs and Chelsea regarding a potential deal.
Following an international break and his call-up to the England squad, Gallagher remarked, “Training and playing alongside midfielders worth 100 plus million pounds is good and shows where I’m at as well.” He added, “So maybe I can keep playing as many games as I can and keep performing well. I’m confident that his contract will be resolved; after all, Chelsea is my team, and I enjoy playing for them. I’m in love right now, and the fans are amazing. I have no doubt that things will work themselves out.”
Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has also spoken in support of Gallagher, defending the England international in an effort to keep him at Stamford Bridge.
Sarri acknowledged that the player’s future ultimately lies in the hands of the club, stating, “That is between the club and the player. It’s not my decision, therefore I don’t need to talk too much about it. He is one of the captains and is in the starting lineup for almost every game.
