Reports have surfaced regarding Manchester United’s captain, Bruno Fernandes, narrowly avoiding a potential red card during the FA Cup clash against Liverpool.
Lee Dixon has shed light on why Fernandes escaped a second yellow card despite his challenge on Dominik Szoboszlai during the game.
Although Fernandes had already received a booking earlier, his tackle on Szoboszlai did not lead to another yellow card.
Dixon, who was part of the commentary team, acknowledged that while Fernandes was fortunate not to be booked again, he did not believe the challenge warranted a straight red card.
He noted that such incidents are commonplace on the pitch, and although they may be subject to VAR review, it did not intervene in this instance.
Dixon suggested that if the same tackle had occurred elsewhere on the pitch and Fernandes had not been previously booked, he would have likely received a yellow card.
He expressed confidence that the referee would have taken action if the tackle had occurred in a different location on the field.
