Mark Schwarzer has provided counsel to Chelsea, advising against the sale of Conor Gallagher before the conclusion of the January transfer window.
Despite starting on the bench in Chelsea’s Carabao Cup semi-final against Middlesbrough, Gallagher’s second-half appearance contributed to a 6-1 victory, securing a spot in the final at Wembley next month under manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Speaking on Sky Sports after Chelsea’s triumph, former Chelsea goalkeeper Schwarzer stressed the potential negative impact on Pochettino’s team if Gallagher were to be sold, especially considering the significant changes the club has undergone.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining a connection with supporters during challenging times and highlighted the example of Mason Mount, expressing a personal desire to see him remain at the club.
Schwarzer noted that financial considerations and regulations played a role in certain player departures, but he underscored the unique playing style and contributions of Conor Gallagher, stating that Chelsea lacks a player with his specific skill set. Losing Gallagher, according to Schwarzer, would constitute a major setback for the team.
Former Chelsea striker and England national team coach, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, echoed Schwarzer’s sentiments, urging Chelsea not to part ways with Gallagher before the impending transfer deadline. Hasselbaink emphasized Gallagher’s love for the club and his commitment, stating that he believes Gallagher does not desire to leave Chelsea.
