Chelsea’s strategic focus on nurturing young talent may take a backseat as they weigh the possibility of securing an experienced English international, either in the current transfer window or the upcoming summer.

The club, in their quest for a reliable goal-scorer, has identified Callum Wilson as a potential candidate.

Wilson’s impressive record of 26 goals in 45 Premier League matches makes him not only a goal-scoring asset but also an individual with valuable experience, particularly when paired with players like Nicolas Jackson.

Footballwave reports that Chelsea is optimistic about Wilson’s ability to contribute quality performance for at least the next 18 months, even if he receives less playing time compared to what he might secure at his current club, Newcastle.

On the other hand, Newcastle is keen to strengthen its midfield this season but faces the challenge of having to sell players to facilitate new acquisitions.

The potential move of Kieran Trippier to Bayern Munich was nearing completion, but the Bundesliga giants have, at least for now, decided against submitting a third proposal.

Within Newcastle’s squad, Alexander Isak plays a pivotal role as a center-forward, and Anthony Gordon demonstrates versatility by being able to play in a central role.

The club places a higher priority on finding a replacement for Sandro Tonali, especially with Joelinton sidelined due to a long-term injury, and Elliot Anderson dealing with a persistent back issue.

As for the future of 31-year-old Callum Wilson, whose contract extends until 2025, there is uncertainty about his long-term commitment to Newcastle.

Rumors have circulated linking him to AC Milan in this transfer window, but Newcastle has reportedly thwarted any such approaches.

Addressing the ongoing speculation about his future on a recent BBC Footballer’s Football Podcast, Wilson mentioned, “It’s January, the window’s open, and there’s always speculation around players, not just myself but with everybody else in the squad, I haven’t got much more to say than that.”

Wilson’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) is estimated at €7.6m, suggesting that a transfer fee could provide Newcastle with excellent value if they opt to sell him promptly.
