Arsenal has reportedly made inquiries about Real Madrid midfielder Arda Güler, according to Spanish sources.
The 19-year-old Turkish international joined Real Madrid from Fenerbahçe last year in a €20 million (£17 million) transfer deal.
During his debut season with the Spanish giants, Güler made 12 appearances in La Liga, showing glimpses of his talent.
However, despite impressing for Turkey at Euro 2024, Güler has struggled to secure regular playing time under manager Carlo Ancelotti this season.
He has started only three of Real Madrid’s 17 matches across all competitions, which has reportedly left him frustrated with his limited role in the team.
Sources suggest that Güler is eager for more playing opportunities and is looking for a way to secure more game time with the club.
In response to his situation, Arsenal is said to have reached out to Güler’s representatives to gauge his interest in a move to the Premier League.
The Gunners are reportedly monitoring his situation closely, viewing it as similar to that of Martin Ødegaard, who had a tough time at Real Madrid before thriving at Arsenal.
Ødegaard joined Arsenal on loan in 2021 and impressed so much that he made a permanent move to the club for £30 million.
Ancelotti recently commented on Güler’s situation, alongside that of fellow young talent Endrick, stating, “Endrick is ready to play, doing very well, and showing a lot of quality in training.
I say the same thing about Güler. These are young players pushing.
The main goal is to turn things around as quickly as possible, not just allocate minutes to one player over another.”
His remarks suggest that while both players are showing promise, the priority for the team remains on getting results rather than focusing on individual minutes for younger players.
Given Güler’s current dissatisfaction with his playing time, it seems he may be considering a change of scenery, and Arsenal’s interest could offer him a new opportunity to prove himself in a different environment.
The North London club is keeping a close watch on the situation, seeing it as an opportunity to bring in a talented young player who could follow in Ødegaard’s footsteps and make a significant impact at the Emirates.
