Jose Mourinho has asserted that he faced accusations of bullying during his tenure at Manchester United, particularly after making a halftime substitution in a game against Southampton in 2015.

Despite a successful start at United, securing the Community Shield, League Cup, and Europa League in his first season, Mourinho’s final season proved challenging, leading to his dismissal in the 2018/19 campaign.

During his time on John Obi-Mikel’s The Obi One Podcast on YouTube, Mourinho reflected on his stint at United, emphasizing that he gave his all and experienced behind-the-scenes challenges.

He highlighted the incident where he substituted Nemanja Matic at halftime, facing accusations of bullying.

Mourinho underscored the evolving nature of management and life, citing changes in coaching strategies and personal roles.

While not revealing the player’s identity, Mourinho shared his perspective on the decision to substitute Matic, stating it was a tactical move aimed at securing victory.

He noted the changes in the world and how decisions like this, once considered routine in coaching, now face scrutiny.

Mourinho discussed the broader shift in various roles, drawing parallels between coaching and fatherhood in adapting to changing times.

Mourinho also took a not-so-subtle dig at Ed Woodward, expressing a preference for working alongside the current CEO, Richard Arnold.

He praised Arnold as an amazing person and disclosed that Arnold served as a Commercial Director, not a CEO, during his time at the club.

Mourinho expressed a desire to have had Arnold’s support during his tenure, acknowledging the challenges faced.

Despite any regrets, Mourinho reiterated his dedication and love for Manchester United, recalling a moment when he received applause and cheers from the entire stadium during a Sky appearance, showcasing the fans’ appreciation.
