Glenn Hoddle heavily criticized West Ham defender Emerson Palmieri following their devastating 5-0 loss to Chelsea.

Mauricio Pochettino’s squad secured a remarkable victory at Stamford Bridge, marking their first consecutive Premier League wins since December.

The game saw Chelsea dominate from the start, leading 3-0 at halftime with goals from Cole Palmer, Conor Gallagher, and Noni Madueke.

Nicolas Jackson added two more goals in the second half, sealing Chelsea’s victory.

Hoddle expressed his dismay with West Ham’s performance, noting their lack of urgency and defensive shortcomings when not in possession.

He observed a lack of effort in closing down Chelsea players and defending crucial areas, suggesting a lack of consistency in their gameplay.

In particular, Hoddle singled out Emerson Palmieri for criticism, highlighting his poor performance during Chelsea’s fourth goal.

He noted Palmieri’s delayed reaction and overall poor condition during the game, emphasizing the need for greater effort and commitment, especially given the number of goals conceded in the first half.

Former West Ham striker Jermain Defoe also weighed in on the team’s defensive display under manager David Moyes.

Defoe expressed his disappointment with the team’s performance, stating that it did not reflect the standards expected of West Ham.

He emphasized the importance of hard work and defensive solidity, especially under a manager known for his defensive-minded approach.

Defoe acknowledged the challenge of facing a strong Chelsea team but stressed the need for a more resilient defensive performance, particularly considering Chelsea’s reputation for defensive strength over the years.
