BREAKING NEWS: Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca broke down in tears as another key player, who was expected to be a central figure for the squad, suffered an injury during a World Cup qualifier match

Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson has suffered a serious ankle sprain while on international duty with Senegal, forcing him to withdraw from the squad ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Mauritania on Sunday.

The 22-year-old was substituted in the final minutes of Senegal’s 1-1 draw with DR Congo on Thursday and underwent an MRI scan, which revealed the extent of the injury.

Jackson, who joined Chelsea from Villarreal for £31.8 million last summer, will now rest before beginning pre-season training in July.

His injury is a blow to Chelsea’s pre-season preparations, which include a tour of the United States with matches against Wrexham, Celtic, Club America, Manchester City, and Real Madrid.

Despite his inconsistency, Jackson impressed in his debut season at Chelsea, scoring 17 goals in all competitions.

His dynamic displays in the Premier League have earned him praise, with former Manchester United defender Gary Neville describing him as a young player with a lot to offer.

Neville believes Jackson has the potential to be a valuable asset for Chelsea, even if he isn’t the number one striker.

His performance in the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City was particularly impressive, and Neville thinks that with a more clinical finisher, Chelsea could have won the game.

Jackson’s injury is a setback for both Chelsea and Senegal, but he is expected to recover in time for the new season.

Chelsea’s pre-season schedule includes matches against top-tier opponents, and Jackson’s absence will be felt.

However, the young striker has shown promise, and his return to fitness will be eagerly anticipated by Chelsea fans.

In the meantime, Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States will provide an opportunity for other players to step up and showcase their skills.

With matches against prestigious clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester City, Chelsea’s squad will be tested, and Jackson’s absence will be felt.

Nevertheless, the young striker’s long-term potential and talent are undeniable, and his return to fitness will be a welcome boost for Chelsea’s attacking lineup.
